Momentum, Rain and Missed Chances: Kingsmen Claim DLS Victory Over TKR

We Still Believe In You TKR! Although disappointed from the loss of last night’s game against the Jamaica Kingsmen we still love you! You made a valiant effort, it was the rain that ruined our lives. It was a show that was promising to be a slow burn thriller, but alas, fate had other plans, and mother nature decided the final outcome of the game.

The Queens Park Oval was packed for the third TKR home game, we had won our last match against the Barbados Royals on the previous day, so fans were optimistic and excited about this game. There was barely an empty seat as hundreds of supporters in red poured into the stadium to back TKR. Trinis are known for being late. But for cricket, we know discipline. We were on time and well equipped with our TKR paraphernalia, flags, rags, horns and drums and soo many more trinkets to support our favourite team were everywhere on the stands. The roadside salesmen, out in full force yesterday must have gone home smiling with their pockets bursting from trinket sales.

The toss was won by the Jamaica Kingsmen and they opted to bowl.

Ah Trini love to fete. So while the game was on pause the party stand continued to party hard in the downpour. After a lengthy pause the rain stopped and the match resumed. And the pressure was on. Tensions intensified quickly, while JK laboured to make runs, TKR fought to curb the same. Keacy Carthy was bowled out for 42 runs by Usman Tariq in the 13th over, and the heavens opened and the rains came down in the 14th over for a second time leaving Jamaica with a score of 127 for 3.

This was game over. The game was decided by the DLS method and JK was given victory.

In a post-match interview, TKR fan Nyron said “before the rain came, yes, I was still optimistic. Jamaica had the advantage, but with 5.2 overs remaining, the game was far from over and TKR still had a chance to turn things around as we have seen from previous matches. But as the saying goes ‘rain does only stop cricket’.” TKR fans left the stands disappointed, but we remain brothers and sisters with one love and one heart within the Caribbean community. Job well done Jamaica Kingsmen.

Before the game started, Dwayne Barvo's number 47 jersey was retired.
