Opulence on the Runway: UTT's Young Designers Dazzle at Fashion Week 2025

The University of Trinidad and Tobago's (UTT) Caribbean Academy of Fashion and Design (CAFD) delivered a breathtaking showcase of talent, innovation and cultural pride at its highly anticipated Fashion Week 2025. The week-long celebration culminated on Saturday June 7, with a runway show themed "Opulence" - a vibrant and imaginative display of artistry and technical skill by final-year students of UTT's Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Fashion Design.

Audience members were left in awe as young designers presented bold, elegant collections defined by luxurious fabrics, intricate embellishments and compelling storytelling through design. The Designer Critic segment, judged by renowned local designer Adrian Foster, saw Kayla Alexander take first place followed by Renikka Ellis in second.

The Senior Thesis Fashion Show honoured Toniann Prince as Student of the Year for her collection Roots of Heritage, while Christina Fergusson received Most Promising Designer with Veil of the Raven and Azaria Scope earned the Creativity Award with her collection entitled Delicate Romance.

In attendance was Senator Professor the Honourable Prakash Persad, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training, who praised the event stating: “Events like these reflect the brilliance and potential of our youth. CAFD continues to be a beacon of innovation and excellence in fashion education.”

Also in attendance were members of UTT's leadership team, including Professor Rean Maharaj, Acting Vice President of Research, Academic and Student Affairs, and Dr Ruby Alleyne, Vice President of Quality Assurance and Institutional Effectiveness. As UTT's CAFD continues to set new standards in local and Caribbean fashion education, anticipation is already building for UTT Fashion Week 2026.
