UTT: Caribbean Academy of Fashion and Design (CADF) certainly appears to be moving forward. This year’s theme, appropriately entitled, “Parallax” captured the vision of fashion through different global perspectives while re-introducing classic techniques with fresh faces to the Caribbean fashion industry. The show achieved this through the lens of the past, present and future.

The academy dedicated some time to reflect on its progress since its inception in 2008. A slideshow took the audience through a time machine that chronicled a decade of milestones. This succeeded the presentation of the third year students that served as an appetizer for the main course of the senior thesis presentations of the 2018 graduating class.
Tobago graduate, Daniel Clarke walked away with this year’s top prize of CAFD Student of the Year with his collection, “Apathy”. Other notable individual achievements included the 2018 Designer Critic Winners:
· Antholyn Williams
· Azizah Mohammed
· Sara-Marie Wilkins
· Veronica Passe
Take special note of the UTT CAFD Class of 2018:
· Carrie-Ann Kistow
· Chioke Herbert
· Chynelle St.George
· Daniel Clarke
· Marcia Joseph
· Maurica Rosvall
· Renee Wilson
· Samantha Squires
· Scharron Bain
· Stacy Riley
· Tonielle Williams
· Trisha Leander

You will surely be hearing more about these talented graduates in the future. Established designers such as Claudia Pegus, Adrian Foster and Shaun Griffith Perez, mentored these emerging designers. Senior Instructor Sandra Carr and her team at UTT look set to take on the world. No matter how you observe it, the future looks bright for Caribbean fashion and that is no parallax.
