Q1. What was the moment that you decided to become an artiste?
I started working on my own music five years ago. I decided to start releasing music in February. I made a decision to become an artiste earlier this year. It is a decision that I have to make constantly because there are many times that are a cause for reconsideration. However, this gives me the opportunity to strengthen my resolve.
Q2. What would you consider to be your biggest achievement as an artiste thus far?
Discovering who I am and accepting my identity. Making a radical decision to love my body. Since I have done this, I have been able to connect with people through music in a completely different way and form a real soul connection.
Q3. What was the worst moment you experienced as an artiste?
The worst moment was being told to "Stop making that kiss meh ass noise" by a family member. I felt completely crushed at the moment as if my music was completely useless.
Q4. What is your favourite moment as an artiste?
My favorite moment was turning on the radio on an ordinary morning and hearing my song "Long Way Home" playing on 95.1.
Q5. What is your pet peeve?
I have several. Pessimism, complacency, and a lack of respect for others.
Q6. Whom do you admire the most?
Nina Simone because she was a tormented woman who was courageous in her pursuit to be a true artiste reflecting the times and singing the music in her soul. Her restlessness for perfection and anger at injustice moves me beyond words.
Q7. What is your favourite dish?
Curry.
Q8. Besides music, what do you like to do?
Spend time with my loved ones, watch movies, go shopping, watch Dr. Phil and Iyanla Fix My Life.
Q9. What is the best advice that you ever received? Who gave it to you?
The best advice I ever received was "Make a decision". I learnt this from Bob Proctor. Once you make a decision, circumstances, plans and ideas will come together to fulfill your goals.
Q10. What do you think are the qualities required to become a successful artiste?
The ability to learn, unlearn and relearn. Persistence, courage, passion and dedication. A sense of identity.
Q11. What are your goals as an artiste in the future?
It's not wise to disclose your personal goals.
Q12. What advice do you have for aspiring artistes?
Educate yourself about the music industry by studying information from expert sources.
